Surviving the Tundra: Caring for Dry Winter Skin
Oh, the weather outside is frightful... and your skin hates it! If you live in an area with winter weather, this time of year can make your skin feel dry and itchy, and may even lead to cracking. Now is the time to start caring for yourself so that you can get ahead of whatever Jack Frost is bringing this season! Here are a few simple steps you can take to keep your skin feeling soft and healthy until spring comes.
Drink Up!
As the largest organ in your body, your skin needs to be moisturized from the inside out. Drink your water! Also, avoid drinks with caffeine, which can further dehydrate you.
Care For Your Air
The air gets very dry in the winter, but you can remedy that inside your home with a humidifier. This is especially important in your bedroom, where you spend about a third of your time. As an added bonus, humidifiers can help keep your sinuses properly moisturized, so you may be able to avoid a winter cold!
Soak Up Moisture
Treat your skin to a moisturizing cream or lotion every day, especially after bathing. Thicker lotions have a higher amount of oils to hold in moisture. Glycerin is a great ingredient to look for, as it draws moisture to your skin. Bubbly Ducky offers a variety of thick, creamy, lotions to help you! Our lotions are made with glycerin, as well as a hefty amount of shea butter, sunflower oil, olive oil, and vitamin E to hydrate and nourish your skin.
Limit Your Bathing Time
I can't believe I am writing this, but you should actually limit your bathing during the winter. A hot shower or bath removes the oils from your skin, which can make it dry out further. Save your hour-long soaks for spring!
Exfoliate
Gently getting rid of the old, dry, top layer of skin makes the healthy skin underneath feel much more comfortable. I recommend using our body scrubs about once a week wherever your skin feels dry or rough, and about once a month all over. Gently massage the scrub into damp skin and watch it turn into a moisturizing cream before you rinse it away. You can even use it on your face!
